Dragon Scales by Rui Tomás.

The inspiration of Dragon Scale comes from the snake shape of Chinese dragon. Designer Rui Tomas demonstrates dargon’s dancing posture and scales, showing the contemporary aesthetics. Since it is made of thermo-forming sturdy materials, which can prevent from UV, it can be used both inside and outside as landscape divider.

Dragon Scales is a landscape partition that can help to divert people in the crowded public places. “As an exhibitor, I must be sensitive to all the potential opportunities. But after that, I become a spectator. I’d like to experience the Chinese culture and society together with my son.” Since it was their first time to come here, they worked for the exhibition daytime and visited Xin Tiandi around at night. This city is diffused of artiness and sense of design, and it’s hard for them to distinguish whether it’s work or just entertainment."

Design in the air

Rui Tomas, a Portuguese designer, experienced an “upgrade” when he came to Shanghai. The design product Dragon Scale, which intended to be delivered to Xin Tiandi, was impounded by custom without permission of outdoor exhibition. Finally, it was put in the Exhibition of Design Shanghai. Tomas said excitedly, “It’s incredible this upgrade. This way I’ve got direct communications and immediate feedbacks with the professional visitors during the exhibition.”
